OUR STORY

It was August 2015 when a mom decided she wanted to help Derry Township School District students who went to bed hungry at night and over the weekend.  She met with the Derry Township School District superintendent and food services director and asked permission to start a weekend food assistance program for the students.

Three months later, COCOA PACKS, INC was born! Now, we can reach over 600+ students that are food insecure.

Within 12 months it had grown into:

  • Supplemental food program with over 200+ students enrolled in 2015/2016 school year
  • Summer program serving 100+ students
  • 70+ volunteers run Cocoa Packs
  • 40 + Weekly Food Donations
  • Egg donations from a generous donor
  • Panera Bread, bagged and brought by a generous donor
  • Bagels from owner of “The Bagel Rack”

Food and nutrition play such an important role in developing the body and minds of children. The COCOA packs provide a little extra for families and most importantly, children who might need a little more. When asked what their favorite part of a COCOA is, a Kindergartner, age 5, replied, “COCOA packs are great because it gives us food on the weekends.”
